WELCOME! I’m Kelli. I’m 30 years old, a wife and mother to a beautiful little girl named Brooklyn. I’m passionate about nutrition and helping mommies, daddies, and little ones develop a taste for fresh and healthy foods. I created this blog to share my knowledge.
My husband Matt and I had our daughter Brooklyn on November 14, 2015, and that was the day my whole world changed. Before Brooklyn, my love of fast food, sweet tea, and chocolate reigned supreme. While I was pregnant with B, I craved McDonald’s and Taco Bell and ate Snickers like they were going out of style.
I suffered from intense morning sickness and food aversions, which lasted ALL day. The only food I could stomach without fail were chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. (I cringe when I think back to how many nuggets I ate during that time) Between eating bad food and candy, then being sick on top of that, I wasn’t getting adequate nutrients. This just made me feel worse! My doctor was worried about my lack of weight gain during my pregnancy. Though she reassured me that as long as I was doing what I could, then everything would be okay. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I did put on weight but I was still eating mostly unhealthy and only engaging in the minimum activity.
On November 14th, my water broke and I knew it was go-time! I had plans put in place but my delivery wasn’t ideal. I wasn’t progressing enough, my contractions were all over the place, both mine and Brooklyn’s heart rate declined and I ended up having to have a c-section. I know healthy mommies have c-sections all the time but at that moment I felt like I did something wrong.
When I held my daughter for the first time, I was awash with emotions. I realized I was a bit careless with my health during my pregnancy. I vowed then and there to be the best mother I could be. Also, I would do better with mine and my family’s nutrition and health in general. I wanted to make sure Brooklyn grew up with a better relationship with food than her mama.
Little did I know, the vow I made Brooklyn would steer me onto a path I had no idea I wanted to take. I joined a kickboxing gym and started trying new foods and actually crave healthy foods ALL the time now. I took numerous nutrition courses to obtain knowledge about everything food related! At the time, I only took the courses to help my own family but realized that other families might also be clueless about nutrition. So as a certified nutritionist, I am here to help mommies, daddies, and mommies-to-be gain knowledge around nutrition for themselves and their little ones.
